Reeds Lithium Ion batteries have been working hard for Australian prospectors for nearly seven years and the very first ones are still going strong. They were a revolution when they first became available in March 2003. The major advantages of this system were the reduced weight compared to the traditional lead acid battery and most importantly the 8 hour running time at a constant voltage of either 7.3 or 6.8 Volts.

There was a great deal of speculation amongst prospectors about the Lithium batteries.  However, these batteries have proved to be very popular and successful and even the large detector manufacturing companies like Minelab have moved into the production and sale of Lithium Ion batteries.
